Changing your location on a dating app: 12 questions with clear answers (2026)
You want to change your location on your dating app and show up in another neighborhood, but first come a thousand questions: do you have to hack the phone, does the computer stay on, will they charge you, can you get blocked. Here are the twelve questions we get most, with the short answer first and the explanation after.
The basics
- 1. Can I change my iPhone's location without hacking it? Yes. GPS Libre doesn't touch the phone's system or install anything weird on it. It uses a feature Apple includes for developers, “Developer Mode”, which you turn on with a switch and turn off the same way.
- 2. Do I need a computer? Yes. The computer is what moves the GPS: it acts as the antenna. With just an iPhone, there's no good way to do it today.
- 3. Does the computer have to stay on? Yes, whenever you want to show up somewhere else. If you close the program, the iPhone goes back to your real location. You leave it on at home and do everything from your phone.
- 4. And the cable? Only the first time, so the iPhone and the computer get to know each other, like when you pair headphones. From then on it works over your home Wi‑Fi.
Day to day
- 5. Do I run it from my phone? Yes. You scan a code on the computer screen and the map is on your iPhone. Tap a spot and that's where you appear.
- 6. What does it look like in the app? As if you really were at that spot. If you live in Queens and tap Hell's Kitchen, your app shows you the guys in Hell's Kitchen, and you show up for them, close by. Meanwhile, you're on your couch.
- 7. What if I get “stuck” somewhere else? You won't. Tap “Restore the iPhone's real GPS”, or close the program, and you're back at your real location in seconds.
- 8. Can I move as if I were walking? Yes. Besides jumping to a spot, you can draw a route along the streets or move with a little stick on the screen.
Compatibility
- 9. Will it work on my iPhone? If it has iOS 17 or later, yes (iOS 18 and 26 too). Check in Settings → General → About.
- 10. What computer do I need? A PC with Windows 10 or 11. It doesn't need to be powerful: the program is light.
- 11. What if I have Android? The Android version, which will work without a computer, is on the way. If you want it, leave us your email when you buy and we'll let you know.
The money
- 12. How much is it? You try it free, with no account and no card: you get two location changes, enough to see it works with your iPhone. If it's for you, the monthly plan is $9.99, three months is $19.99 and the yearly plan is $29.99 (that's $2.50 a month). Your first purchase gets 20% off.
What we don't recommend
- VPNs. They change your internet, not the blue dot on the map. Your dating app still sees where you are.
- “Fake GPS” apps from the App Store. Apple doesn't let an app change the phone's location; those apps don't do what they promise.
- Hacking the iPhone. You don't need it, it strips out security and you can break the phone.
One ground rule
Some apps don't allow changed locations: check the rules of the one you use, because using it properly is on you. And GPS Libre is for your own location: to meet new people, so nobody knows which corner you live on, or to see what your app looks like from another neighborhood. It's not for keeping tabs on anyone.
