Same faces on your app every day? Show up in another neighborhood and meet new people
You open your app and it's the same guys as always: you already messaged the one on the corner, the one from the gym left you on read, and you know the rest by heart. You've been on there so long that there's nobody new left in your neighborhood. The fix is easy: show up in another neighborhood without leaving home, and meet new people.
How it works: four steps
- 1. Install GPS Libre on a computer. Like any other program.
- 2. Plug the iPhone in with the cable, one time only, and turn on “Developer Mode”. It's in Settings → Privacy & Security, at the bottom of the list. If it's your first time, here it is with a picture.
- 3. On the map, tap the neighborhood you want. From that moment your iPhone says you're there.
- 4. Open your app. New faces show up, and you show up for them: 0 feet away, 300 feet away, as if you lived there.
Three examples
- The neighborhood next door: you live in Queens and you already know everyone. You tap Hell's Kitchen and suddenly the screen is full of guys you've never seen.
- Where the gay scene is: your area is quiet and there's hardly anyone around. You put yourself in the nightlife district and see who's out before you decide whether to go.
- A different one every week: one day Williamsburg, another day the East Village. Every neighborhood is different people, and your list never runs out.
When you want to go back, tap “Restore the iPhone's real GPS” and you're home again.
Is it free?
You can try it free, with no account and no card: you get two location changes. If you want to use it as much as you like, that's the paid part; prices are on the home page.
What doesn't work
- VPNs (the apps for “changing country”): they change your internet, not the blue dot on the map.
- “Fake GPS” apps from the App Store: Apple doesn't let an app change the phone's location.
Questions we always get
- Can they tell I'm not really there? They see your profile like anyone else's in that neighborhood. If you make plans, you decide whether to go.
- Can an app block me? Some apps don't allow changed locations. Check each one's rules: using them properly is on you.
- What about Android? That's easier: Android lets you do it with just the phone.
