Change your iPhone location for free: what GPS Libre gives you without paying (and what it doesn't)
You search for how to change your iPhone location for free and almost everything you find is a “free trial” with a catch: they want your email, your card, or it runs out after an hour. Here it is, straight: what GPS Libre gives you without paying a cent, what's paid, and how to get the most out of the trial.
What's free, no fine print
- Two real location jumps. You tap a spot on the map and your iPhone shows up there, with your real iPhone and in whatever app you want. Twice.
- No account, no email, no card. Download, install, try it. You don't leave a single detail.
- No expiry date. The trial doesn't end after an hour or a week: your two jumps wait until you use them.
- Going back home is free. Tapping “Restore the iPhone's real GPS” doesn't count as a jump.
- Demo mode, unlimited. With the “Try without iPhone” button you see the whole program, with the map, routes and joystick, without connecting anything. It doesn't move any iPhone, but it doesn't use anything up either.
What's paid
- More than two jumps. After the second one, the program asks you to activate it.
- Routes and the joystick. Having the iPhone “walk” down the streets or moving around with the stick is part of the full version from day one. In demo mode you can still look at them.
It's $9.99 a month, $19.99 a quarter or $29.99 a year, with 20% off your first purchase. You cancel in one click, and if it's not for you, you have 14 days to ask for your money back, no reasons needed (it's in the refund policy).
How to spend your two jumps well
- Demo mode first. You learn to move the map and tap the exact spot without wasting a jump on the wrong neighborhood.
- Get the iPhone ready before you jump. It needs iOS 17 or later (Settings → General → About), the computer needs “Apple Devices”, a free download from the Microsoft Store, and Developer Mode has to be on (Settings → Privacy & Security, at the bottom of the list). Plugging in the cable and turning that mode on doesn't use up jumps. If it's your first time, here it is with a picture.
- First jump: the neighborhood you actually care about. You live in Queens and you know everyone on the app by heart. You tap Hell's Kitchen, open your app and look: new faces, and you show up for them like just another guy from the neighborhood.
- Second jump: from your phone, no cable. Put the cable away, scan the code on the computer and make the second jump by tapping the map on your iPhone. That way you check it also works without getting off the couch.
Two things the trial doesn't change
- The computer stays on. It's what moves the iPhone's GPS. If you close the program, the iPhone goes back to its real location.
- The phone on the same Wi‑Fi. To run it from the iPhone, both have to be on the same home network. The cable really is just the first time.
Questions we always get
- Can I do it for free with just the iPhone? No. The iPhone doesn't let anything inside it change its location: you need the computer, free or paid.
- What happens when my two jumps run out? The program shows you how to activate it. Your iPhone doesn't get “stuck” somewhere else: tap “Restore the iPhone's real GPS” and you're home.
- I have a Mac or Android, will it work? For now the program is for Windows. The Mac and Android versions are on the way.
- Can an app block me? Some apps don't allow changed locations. Read their rules first: how you use them is up to you.
If you want to see how it goes, download GPS Libre: the two jumps are already yours.
